Welcome to the autumn/Christmas Steenbergs newsletter for 2007
In this edition: The big excitements at Steenbergs Steenbergs is delighted to announce that we are launching two new products – products that seem to have taken for ever in development and production but are now available - the world’s first organic Fairtrade vanilla extract and our new organic Fairtrade black bagged tea and green bagged tea – Steenbergs Peace Tea. Organic Fairtrade vanilla extract
Steenbergs was originally asked to develop this vanilla extract for the chocolate and baking industries and we’re now making it available in more user friendly amounts (previously only available in 25 litre bottles – which was a little too much for normal households – that’s a lot of puddings!). The organic Fairtrade vanilla extract will be appearing in shops around the country as two distributors – Suma and Essentials are selling it for us. It is also available at our online shop. If you’ve never had proper vanilla extract now is your time to try – Steenbergs vanilla extract has no additives such as sugar and use organic alcohol rather than more aggressive solvents. This extract is produced solely for us using our Fairtrade organic vanilla beans from India and using organic principles and organic ethanol (alcohol) to capture the flavour/vanilla extract in a user friendly liquid format. Treat yourself, friends or family for Christmas.
Why Peace Tea? Peace Tea was designed from two standpoints – the “take time out of your day and grab yourself some peace and quiet” and the more obvious “peace not war”. Choose the one that most suits you! There are two teas in this funky new range – a blended black tea and a blended green tea. As well as being organic and Fairtrade we are sending an additional percentage of profits to social causes in India and Sri Lanka. This is to help those get to the level of Fairtrade. We are all very excited about these new products and we’ll be letting all our customers who order until the end of January try out our new teas – look out for them in your orders. Organic chai tea made even easier
For some time now we’ve been offering organic chai spices – three blends to allow you to add them to the tea of your choice. Due to popular demand we are now offering our organic green chai tea, our organic sweet black chai tea, organic Christmas chai tea and organic masala chai tea already blended with tea. Steenbergs green chai tea is a delicious blend of spices including saffron in particular makes a delicious change and makes you somehow feel very spoilt and decadent when drinking it – not bad from a cup of tea. It’s a particular favourite this winter in our Steenbergs office, not requiring milk and taken with or without sugar. Ask Anne – our Technical guru - who was heard to say “it’s actually quite nice!?”
If you’re looking for presents we’ve plenty to tempt you – be it our gorgeous zen tea set or any of our box spice or tea collections – or to help you create the perfect meal – don’t forget our two organic mixed spices (including our Fairtrade version), curries, blends and seasonings. Steenbergs is there to help you create delicious menus with fresh, ethical organic products. (And don’t forget we can even gift wrap them for you!) Steenbergs spices are now available through distributors in the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Finland, with shops also in France and Denmark. Steenbergs tea now has a Swedish distributor, with some tea is also available in Denmark and Ireland. If you would like further information about how to contact these distributors or shops please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01765 640088 or enquiries@steenbergs.co.uk
Steenbergs organic vanilla extract can be found through shops using Suma and Essentials distributors. Steenbergs organic and Fairtrade sugar and spice stackers are available in various Oxfams throughout the country. We have many stockists throughout the country – for your nearest please use our postcode finder or call us on 01765 640088. These include The Conran Shop (boxes and an exclusive rack filled with our spices), Judges Bakery in Hastings, The Store (Edinburgh and Aberdeen), Grassroots (Glasgow), Divertimenti (London), various Booths and other fine food shops that specialise in organic, ethical and stylish products.
Steenbergs prides itself in sourcing mainly direct from producers and we are constantly finding new producers to ensure both demand and quality can be met. 2007 was exciting for us as one of our first ever producers – we bought their first ever organic export of pepper – has gained Fairtrade status so we are buying Indian organic Fairtrade pepper from one of our original suppliers. We have actually kept with our original suppliers for nearly everything, bringing on one new vanilla supplier during this year and we are trying to develop one potential Egyptian supplier. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting Steenbergs. The postal strike back log did affect a small amount of deliveries – which if you were affected we make huge apologies for. We understand that any outstanding issues have now been resolved. We tend to use couriers for most of our deliveries so if you are unlikely to be in please don’t forget to fill out the special instructions in your order form – alternative addresses eg the office, or leave outside with neighbour etc. Happy Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays and Seasons greetings to one and all.
