New look website and More on offer than ever before

If you haven't visited us for a while, come and see all the changes at www.steenbergs.co.uk.

And with the onset of winter, our thoughts are turning to delicious warming casseroles, tagines and chais.

Steenbergs new look website

Please enable images to view

Steenbergs.co.uk has undergone a major revamp - it not only looks better but now offers much more. These include looking at your old orders, "google intelligent" searching - making it easier to find things, better recipes and much more besides. We're currently undergoing a huge project of updating all the photography on our site as well as the recipes. Please bear with us, we are going as fast as we can. There have been a few teething problems with the major upgrade but we are sorting all these out as they come to light - many thanks for your support and we would love to hear from you with feedback - room for future improvements.

We've also changed our payment system to Worldpay which should mean that the payment process is much more customer friendly and (hopefully), the end to many of the niggles resulting from the Barclaycard system. Let us know what you think.

New products from customers

For the first time, we've expanded the goods on offer on our website to include delicious products made with our spices by our customers. These include award winning organic curry pastes from West Country Curry, organic red thai paste from Real Organics and some delicious chutneys and mustards from relative new comer, Glenroyd Organics.

We're also offering organic Fairtrade coffee for the first time. We've often been asked about this, but it is not something that we are looking to offer  under the Steenbergs brand currently but we are delighted to be trialling some delicious organic Fairtrade roasted ground coffee.

To complement our food products we've pulled together some ecofriendly household products such as shampoo, soap and cleaning products. All are things we use here at Steenbergs and for us at home.

Let us know what you think of all these new ranges and whether there's anything else that you would like to see at Steenbergs.

The search for pink peppercorns and other hard to find products

2008 has continued the search for organic pink peppercorns. We have previously obtained this highly sought after item from Madagascar, but cyclones this year ruined the crops. After a long and exhaustive search we have found a new supply from Brazil. So for the first time for what feels like ages, but in reality is only a few weeks, we are once again able to offer organic pink pepper and our popular organic 3 colour pepper and organic Fairtrade 4 colour peppercorns.

Organic allspice has also been a hard to find product as the harvest in Guatemala failed not just once but twice. Luckily we had secured sufficient to see us through and we believe we will be able to renew our stocks at the end of November.

Other products we are still on the search for include organic chervil, a key ingredient for organic fines herbes, and organic dill seed. We will continue the search but please bear with us, this is not just a shortage at Steenbergs but worldwide.

Stockist news

We are delighted to report that Oxfam nationwide now has our organic Fairtrade Peace tea bags (blended English Breakfast tea) and our organic Fairtrade green tea bags. This is in addition to our new Fairtrade spice starter box of mini 8s. New stockists include the River Cottage Stores, The Frost Garden Centre group and the Raglan Garden Centre .

Our list of stockists grows daily - for up-to-date information go to the Where to find us page on the website. We make every effort to keep this page up to date but if there are any omissions or errors that you know about please let us know.

We were delighted to hear of our organic Fairtrade lavender sugar being spotted on ITV as part of their Best of Britain TV series. The sugar was being used in lavender ice cream.

Our new Fairtrade mini spice box has also been picked by Woman and Home and Zest magazines as a good buy for Christmas whilst our organic Christmas tea (a chai blend of spices and tea) has been picked by Good Housekeeping.

What's new in store

As you might expect from Steenbergs there's lots of new things on offer. We've just launched two new sugars - organic mulling wine sugar and organic chai sugar. These are both simple to use - simply add the mulling wine sugar to wine and orange juice/water to suit and heat (never boil) and serve - a delicious seasonal drink. Ever thought that it was too miserable outside and you needed something to cheer you up - a quick and simple option is our organic chai sugar - simply add to a strong cup of tea and transform the drink!

These sugars are going to be added to our range of organic Fairtrade flavoured sugars, which have already proved very popular.

South East Asian cooking - Thailand, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam - are all favourite areas of the world for us, culinary and culturally. This range of South East Asin inspired spices helps to create simple dishes with that added dimension - organic nasi goreng - the classic fried rice dish ; Thai spice mix - the only non organic blend because we couldn't resist the allure of non organic lime leaves, great in noodle soup, stir fries and curries; organic satay mix - this is the blend to add to the peanuts to use on anything from chicken kebabs to vegetable dishes; and organic laksi spice mix                          .

Steenbergs range of spice and tea boxes has grown again. All the tea boxes have been revised in line with the new tea tin and the spice boxes have increased to include an organic Fairtrade mini 8 box. Our mini boxes have always proved very popular including the taster boxes for the organic rubs and curries. There's a whole range to choose from with the main box, the majority of which come with receipe cards to get you started.

Our signature boxes have always been popular and we do offer gift wrapping service to make it even easier with a stylish biomarkt blue paper (with a red liner) and eco string.
